People hiking in the mountains sometimes meet up with BEARS. Experts say that if confronted by a Black Bear, you should not run from him!  Wave your arms, shout, throw rocks or limbs at him...anything to convince him you are tougher than he is. This will almost always work.
 
The AMBERWATCH has been designed to protect children against human predators. But the loud sound it emits can also be effective against Black Bears. Its an easy-to-carry safety device that could come in handy.

Another transplant from Mississippi, Jack Carman has become THE expert on Tennessee Wildflowers. He has an outstanding book that will inspire anyone who wants to photograph or just enjoy wildflowers.

Here's another highlander, Wm. Earl Finley, who loves these mountains and has photographs taken throughout the seasons. Compare the beauty and decide which season is your favorite.

Chuck Summers is another outstanding photographer who has beautiful photographs of these mountains. He also has beautiful books about Big South Fork and the Cumberland Gap area.
